New Initiatives / Emerging Issues

Priority issues that are identified after the Action Plan has received its quarterly review by the Watershed Coordinating Council will be presented in this section. We anticipate that any agency or organization that has the resources to assist with one of these new initiatives would be encouraged to do so as soon as possible.

Strategy 2.2 and Activity 2.2.1 were proposed by WPWA on 1 November 2001, in response to reports by Watershed Watch volunteers that anoxia is detected in deeper sections of ponds following aquatic herbicide applications.

Strategy 2.2 Identify impoundments with plant growth resulting from excess nutrients that interfere with recreational use and devise preventative methods that minimize the use of herbicides.

Activity 2.2.1 Convene an Action Team to identify where aquatic herbicide is in use, and to develop preventative strategies and alternative control methods.
